Seychelles

Why go to Seychelles

When things get tough, the hard starts – the rest of us evoke our perfect sanctuary, dreaming of a remote island with crowd-free sand, bright blue waters and a calm aura. But when you’re ready to turn that dream into reality, keep in mind the Seychelles, a group of 115 islands that permeate the Indian Ocean off the east coast of Africa. You’ve probably seen the scene here before: seemingly endless white beaches, giant rocks and swaying palm trees are the stuff for postcards, TV commercials, and desktop backgrounds. As you relax along these famous beaches, it’s likely that the only other life forms you’ll encounter are the colorful birds and huge turtles on the islands.

The islands of Seychelles are often referred to in two separate groups. Most travelers are limited to exploring the 43 inland islands, relying on one of the group’s three main islands. Mahé is the largest, as it includes the capital of Seychelles, Victoria, in addition to the famous Anse Intendanse Beach. Praslin Island, the second largest of the main islands, features many famous beaches, not to mention Valle de Mai. Then there’s La Digue, a tranquil island where bicycles prevail and the sands of Anse Source Dargent Beach remain unpolluted. Rent a private yacht away from the sea, and you’ll likely stumble across one of the 72 outer islands, low-sandy lowlands ruled by wildlife. It doesn’t go any further.
