Istanbul is the coolest place.
Thirty-nine provinces, 15 million people, more than 1,700 years of history – it’s still hard for me to get around a city of this size.
I never know where to start in Istanbul. However, every time I arrive, I somehow feel immediately relieved. Turkey’s largest city has a way to surround you, overrun you, and take you on the journey. For me, it’s one of those places where it’s better to let go of expectations and worries and move forward with the current.
Stretching across two continents and between two seas, Istanbul is the city of past empires. Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace and Galata Tower are just some of the many historic buildings scattered throughout the city. Sip Turkish tea as you float between Europe and Asia on the ferry and see modern palaces, palaces and museums pass by.
Istanbul is modern, old, conservative and free. It has a vibrant nightlife, prominent mosques, sophisticated art and traditional family-owned restaurants. The old and new class is constantly in this city that does not stop moving.
The best time to visit is spring or autumn (April through May and September). Summers are hot and sticky and winters are gray and rainy, but spring is overflowing with tulips and pink Judas trees, while autumn weather is quite warm and breezy. Those seasons are likely to be less crowded than the busy summer as well.
